This book started the Maps Series.
“Mapownik” was created as a complement to the our biggest hit – “Mapy”. It contains 36 cards that can be easily pulled out, so the finished artwork can be sticked to a fridge or framed and hung on a wall. Activities help to consolidate facts discussed in the book, but also encourage creative play.
Children will create maps, design new flags, visit floating market in Thailand and prepare a trip to the summit of Mount Everest. They will build a tower of people in Catalonia, decorate sugar sculls in Mexico and design a pattern for a Japanese kimono.
On the back of every page you can find interesting facts about biology, geography and culture. On the 3rd page of the cover you can find instruction on how to play international race using bottle caps (very popular game in the 1980s in Poland).
The game was added because of technical reasons. The soft part of the cover should be glued to the back cardboard. But that would make this book harder and more expensive to produce. So we decided to adjust our project with some added value. At first we though that we’re going to change it after we find a better technical solution, but this new form grew on us and we even used it in our next activity books – “Podziemnik” and “Podwodnik”.
We used our fonts for all the texts in the book (Cartographer, Mr Anteater, Mr Cyrk, Mr Happy, Mr Orange, Mrs Ant and Mrs White).
